HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

ETHEL AND LEONARD ABRAMS

In the spring of 1968 I traveled to National Airport in DC to meet Stanley and tour the Corner House Stores. Stan was very dynamic and knew the business thoroughly. As usual, we drove quite a few miles and saw a number of the stores. Corner House has come and gone, but Stan and I are close friends and enjoy each other's company. God only made so many Stanleys. Stan is considerate, intelligent, eminently equitable, outgoing, trustworthy, loyal & spiritual; in fact, Stan is the whole Boy Scout Code of Honor. A shrewd businessman who always remembers his family and particularly Edna. A generous man who enjoys giving to charities that multiply talent, such as libraries, synagogues, schools, hospitals as well as the arts we all enjoy. A man who can always find time for an ice cream cone, but who never had lunch if he could help it. Whenever I wanted to know about cars or trucks I just asked Stan who would give an engineer's appraisal by model number. The driveway at home often looked like a Beverly Hills auto dealer lot. Stan drives himself (and others at times) so when he had his hip fracture he asked the doctor if it was OK to put his bike
on a stand and exercise. The Doctor thinking a few minutes a day readily agrees. Stan cycles so furiously he pops the pin in the hip because he is biking hours instead of minutes. If Stan got a 3am
flight, he would be up at 1am to do respected him for all that he has his exercise and his exercise program is at ultra high speed. I have always enjoyed Stan and have done so in many arenas. Stan is one of the eager beavers of this world who only has one speed and one style, that is give it all you have and do it to the best of your ability. The world would be a much better place if we had more Stan Tuttlemans, but God only put so many precious metals and stones in the world. I am thankful that I have had an opportunity to be a friend of Stan's.

Happy Birthday Stan and God Bless You.

Most respectfully,

Tom O'Connell

Dear Stanley at 80:

The ältester K’er, the leader supreme. Capable of bringing dentists, doctors, and academics into line. Master herder of cats. All of us honor you, not for surviving 80 years but for showing us how to live for 80 years, and more.

For me, you’ve changed everything. I used to say that I wanted to ride 80 on my 80th. Not good enough, for StanTut has done 100. It will have to be 90 on my 90th, until you do 100 at 90. You are doing serious damage to the actuarial tables.

You’ve shown us that the fountain of youth comes with handlebars. Keeping up with you will keep us all young, jungen K’ers forevermore.

With great affection,

Stan Chodorow

COMPETITIVE?

YOU BET!

On a bike ride he'd shout - "Damn it, Eddie, slow down to 18...." And I would and then I'd look up and BANG - he passes me at 23 MPH. And there I am looking at his rear and trying to catch up.

He has never lost the drive and desire to be first and I love him for that!

Stanley;

Your my hero. You're the greatest.

As I write this, I'm anticipating your arrival in Aspen tomorrow to go on a
"little bike ride" with Carol & I (along with 1200 others who will shout
"it's Stan, it's Stan!!" when they see you arrive as they did two years
ago) across the Great Continental Divide; the Rocky Mountains, climbing 3
to 6000 foot elevations per day, over 12,000 foot passes with just barely
enough oxygen in the air to keep a bird alive. All in a days work for my
man Stan.

Has there ever been a challange you didn't take on? Has nothing ever
phased you? ( I believe I know the answer. )

Will there ever be a time when you say "that's for someone younger than
me." ( I believe I know the answer. )

For the past 10 plus years I've been able to say to myself whenever there
has been a challenge or obstacle before me, what would Stan do. ( I always
knew the answer. ) I was able to take it on as my hero would.

Life is really simple.

Stan is the answer.

Love,

Cal.

This goes back a long time – only a few living people would remember this. When Stanley was growing up he lived in a semi detached house on Parkside Ave. – with a space between his home and the adjacent one. In this area he played with what appeared to be an atypical tennis racquet using it to bang a ball against the brick wall of the side of his house. The other kids in the neighborhood had no idea what he was doing, because at that time we had never heard of the game of lacrosse. It was not an inner city sport. But somehow Stanley, even then, was ahead of the pack, who were playing stick ball and two-hand touch football in Fairmount Park.

This is just a reflection of how from early on, Stanley was constantly moving forward, reaching out, always on step ahead.

Best wishes on your eightieth. Biking should keep you fit and healthy for many more birthdays

Dear Stan,

We've cycled up mountains from
Harts Lane to D'Grappa.
Heat shatters 100,
but you'll never stop(pa)

Through vineyards, by potholes,
fields waving with corn.
Your paceline spins forward,
each rides a new dawn.

As you glide through year 80,
keep pedaling ahead.
as new plans and visions
take root in your head.

We'll ride through the galaxies,
traverse a black hole.
Chagall of bicycle
Big heart, greater soul.

Wishing you all the best on this wonderful occasion
We love you and can't wait for the next ride
Next month in Veneto

From Bob Glazer on the occasion of your 80th birthday

Thanks for teaching me:
….to keep a clean bike.
….bike courtesy warnings and signals.
….the mystical art of halting oncoming traffic with an outstretched hand.
….to enjoy bike riding in a group (but not too big a group).
….to ride up portions of steep hills standing up.
….how (not) to hire a secretary.
….how to find great pancakes and corned beef hash in remote locations.
And thanks for:
….introducing me to many nice and interesting people.
….inspiring me to explore new and different routes and trips.
And thanks for:
….being a remarkable role model for continuing productive work and active physical pursuits into the senior years.
And, most of all, thanks for your fine companionship and friendship. I look forward to much more of the same.

With warmest regards for continued health and happiness, HAPPY 80th BIRTHDAY!!!
Dear Stan,

It's hard to imagine when I met you first, you were a young man of 64 years old. I recall vividly the first time we met when you came to Logan and evaluated us and our business. At that point in time you truly became a mentor for me. You truly are a complete man. My respect and admiration for your professional and civic achievements is only outweighed by my respect for your personal example to me and my family.

I truly treasure your friendship and my life is better because of the association which I have had with you over the last 15 years. May the Lord continue to bless you and your family in all of your endeavors. Happy 80th Birthday !

Love,

The Stevensons Gary & Lesa & boys

Stan the Man is 80! I know that because he has the energy of four twenties.
Happy birthday and enjoy this time with your family in the green mountains of Vermont.

In 1997 during our ride across Iowa there was one day when we were given the option of riding one hundred miles. When I finished my ride I noticed that that my computer showed only 99.1 miles; hence, I decided to ride around the block to achieve 100 miles. As I turned the corner I encountered Stanley. I asked him if he were lost. He replied that his computer did not register 100 miles and that he was riding around the block to get to 100 miles.

Happy 80th birthday Stan.

I have known Stan now for the last 9800 miles of bike riding together. We have spent many hours sharing the exhilaration of conquering a steep hill, the sweat and agony of a stiff saddle . We shared the rain and freezing winds of the Czech Republic and the excitement of riding along the historic Blue Danube.

I recall sharing the wonderful feeling of finishing the RAGBRAI together after some 500 grueling miles of "rolling hills" in an oppressive heat, or a wonderful pre-dinner glass of Prosecca in Borso di Grappa in Italy last year. I remember the intense discussions we had about the evolution of Max Ernst's surrealistic style while visiting the Peggy Guggenheim museum in Venice, immediately after arguing about the pros and cons of riding a 23mm Vittorio tire....

This is Stan Tuttleman . A versatile man , a man of all seasons. A true Renaissance man, who has the obsession of being a collector. A collector of........ people.

Stanley has a talent of "reading" people and the ability to find the interesting, the commonality and something unique in every person he meets. He always knows how to keep a conversation flowing and before you know, the two are sharing some event in WWII , the Army or what have you.

I do not know much about Stanley, the successful businessman, but I know that the last thing that I would like is to be on the other side of the negotiating table....

But most of all Stan has style, leadership qualities, a strong personality and definitely a principled individual. I recall, riding with our group, Leonard Abrams, Bob Singer, and Martin Greenberg on a cold Saturday morning on Delaware Avenue. Stanley and I lagged a bit behind and were discussing successes and failures in investments. In passing, he mentioned to me that he did quite well in certain securities and he is quite pleased. Suddenly he said to me that he would love to have a plain hot bagel, to warm up on this cold day. I immediately pointed out to him that I see an open bagel bakery, some 200 feet away, and I will whistle to the rest of the group to stop. When hearing this Stanley immediately replied that there is no way that he will stop here.."There is a much better bakery down the road" he said."besides, this guy is a crook , he is charging two pennies more per bagel" I turned around to Stan and said: "Stan, you just told me that you made a killing in the market this week, it is cold and all of us are hungry what difference does it make to spend less than a quarter more on a dozen of bagels? Stanley replied: "Yes you are right, but this does not mean that I have
to splurge now".....

This is a snapshot of Stan the philanthropist, an incredibly generous and compassionate person, who will argue with me on a cold windy day on the price of a bagel!

I remember, climbing an extremely steep hill just on the outskirts of Asolo. It was a cobblestone road extremely difficult to negotiate, I was very concerned that this may be too much for Stan. Of course he made it to the top keeping pace with some of us, who are 20 or more years his junior.

While cooling off at the top, we saw a stocky, heavy set, oversized Italian rider, barely wobbling his way up the hill. His stomach was bulging, his face red, wearing a sweat drenched bandana and barely catching his breath. When he saw us he triumphantly proclaimed that he is the oldest man in Asolo that goes up this hill every single day, and he is 70 years old!

With great pride we pushed (our) Stanley forward and told the sweaty Italian that he is not the oldest, Stan is, because he is 78 years old. The fat Italian refuse to believe us, claiming that the way Stan looks he cannot be day older than 60....

Stanley, you are an inspiration to all of us for your love of life and living it to its fullest. You are an inspiration to us, for your achievements, and at the same time your humility, your ability to dream but yet, you have a sense of reality, your friendship and your ability to think young, and be so young in spirit and body.

Dalia and I wish you and Edna, simply the very very best, on reaching this milestone. We wish many happy returns of the day, good health, peace of mind and many more miles of bike riding together.

Fondly,
Yerach
To Stanley, In the 12 years we have been friends you have gotten leaner, stronger, more agile and better looking. I can't wait to see you when you're 90!

Happy Birthday

Dear Stan,
On behalf of Marcie, Eric and Andrew, we all wish you a happy 80th birthday. I can remember our unforgettable ski trip to Park City in February l985 ( the temperature hovered at -4 F as a high) when you proudly invoked your new senior citizens card to receive a lift ticket discount. Now that you have graduated from the sedentary sport of downhill skiing to the more rigorous sport of mountain biking, you have left me far behind. I am afraid I will not catch up. When you slow down, we hope you will deign to ski with us in Vermont! Happy Birthday!

Dear Stan:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Wow, 80 years young! What an accomplishment, congratulations! I hope that by the time you get to the end of this letter you will be able to remember what was in it, seeing how you are now of legal forgetful age.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my friendship with you and hold it in the highest regard. You have been my mentor in business and in life itself. As I think of you many key words come to mind but I think some stand out above the rest: HARD WORK, LOYALTY, ENTHUSIASM AND A GENUINE CONCERN FOR OTHERS. An example; you have always been concerned about my family and how they are doing, at the same time you always showed the same for Edna and your own children. I have observed you attend to their varying needs. You have much to be proud of, as they are successful each in their own right. Coming from a rich dad can sometimes be hard. Your name is blessed through their continued efforts.

I will never forget the time we spent together in Asia and your willingness to carry the electronic chips from Japan to Johnny Lee's factory in Taiwan. Unfortunately for my pocket book, Michele will be forever grateful for you introducing her to Stanley Market in Hong Kong. Your hospitality is always
first class!

You have been a part of ICON's success for a long time. Our 7,000 plus employees salute you for your role in their successes. I remember how our good friend Mal did not want us to manufacture treadmills; he didn't see the market. Thank goodness for your confidence and determination to begin the manufacturing business of treadmills. I might point out that we have sold over eight million to date and continue to see market growth each year. Our competition that agreed with Mal and didn't produce treadmills have all since disappeared.

I have a business proposition! We can produce a Fountain of Youth Tonic that you take, and we will put you on the Jay Leno Show as the first and only 80 year old man to navigate the Rockies on a bike. The FTC may complain but we will sure sell a lot of product!!

I think the world of you personally, you always take my calls at times of need and I appreciate that. May you live forever and may you have health and continued happiness. Stan you are the greatest! Our family is blessed to know you. We consider you family and wish you only the best.

Sincerely,

Scott & Michele Watterson and Family

P.S. You are at the age when Mormons could use you. Our Apostles and Prophets find their way to those positions in their latter years. Give me a call when you want the missionaries to stop by and say hello!
Dear Stan,

Dear Stan,

Mazel tov on your 39th birth date, and even double + two! Jewish tradition is more optimistic than Greek. In Greek, the birthday greeting is "Na ta ekatosthises" ["May you live for 100 years"] while in Hebrew the greeting, as you know, is to live for 120 years. You've already lived a life of 120 years in two-thirds the years, so by 120 you should have lived a life of 180. And biking. And attending
lectures in Tuttleman Learning Center. And counseling youngsters like me on how to live each day to the fullest. So, we'll coin a new expression: go for 200, or as long as you continue radiating uncommon brilliance, charm and wit.

You're lucky to be energized by years of good health, but you're even luckier in love -- with beautiful, smart and loyal Edna assisting one another all these years together.

Bless you both,

Peter Liacouras
Stan,
On the Occasion of Your 80th Birthday!

It is hard to imagine that anyone so active, so vibrant, and so involved in a myriad of activities should be such an 80 years young.

Stanley, you have been a good friend to many organizations and individuals across the region and the nation. You have been better to none more than Graduate Hospital, which has been both the beneficiary of your largesse as well as the continuing and invaluable service which you provide by virtue of your leadership on our Board of Directors.

The people of this Hospital, the community, and I personally extend a warm and enthusiastic "many happy returns" in the hope that you will continue, for many years to come, to be the dynamic force for social and corporate responsibility for which you have become renown.

With warmest birthday wishes,

Chris DiCicco
