Dear Stanley,
Congratulations on your 80th Birthday and with best wishes on the next one.
Harriet brought me and the rest of my family into the Tuttleman clan and my close and warm association with you. You are a good sport, generous, loyal and a dear friend.

Dear Uncle Stan,
The words I want to say to you on this momentous day are best expressed through a message I imagine my dear mother, of most blessed memory, writing to you:
"To my dearest Stanley, my brother,
I am so glad to be able to send you my most loving wishes on your eightieth birthday. Mazel Tov! How thoughtful of your children to throw an e-party so I can attend! I know you have surmounted many obstacles to be here today, surrounded by your adoring
family and cascades of adulation. You deserve it. I want to thank you for bringing my dear husband and children into your family circle - skiing in Vermont, honoring
Edna at the ICA in Philadelphia - and for making our celebrations yours -Matthew's Bris in Palo Alto, the opening of Allan's building at the University of Delaware and his lecture in New York, and the twins' Bat Mitzvah in Washington in September (that's a plug!).You are my dear brother and I miss you more than I can say here. I hope you are comforted by the nachas you have given me. I know our mother and father, of blessed memory, would be proud. Ad me'ahv'esrim. All my love to you and Edna,
Harriet"
We love you,
Judy, Allan, and Hannah

Dear Uncle Stanley,
There was method in my mother's madness, I realize now. She went to what seemed like an inordinate amount of trouble to make family life fun. Her logic was simple but profound. People who have good
times with their relatives will want to be with them more often. The family that plays together stays together. And families that stay together form the bedrock of human happiness. You understand this insight and have developed it into an art form. How many families have as much fun as the extended Tuttleman clan? How many eat and drink so well and are so truly merry in each other's company? For me, one memory stands as the emblem: the glorious afternoon three winters ago when a gondola full of the descendants of Carl Tuttleman -- their ages spanning some seven decades -- rode to the top of Stratton mountain and skied down in one exhilarated pack. And our bike trip from Cumberland to D.C. on the Potomac tow path will be even better! You can choose your friends, but we just got plain lucky with our
relatives.
Happy Birthday!

Dear Uncle Stan,
I wish I had a photo of you, me and the boys sailing up the Atlantic Coast with following seas like walls of smooth water, or of me and Jan and Mike Quinn in our camp in the snow on Mt Shasta. But, failing that, I produced the following anyway.

Stan,
One of the most adventurous and exciting experiences of my life was sailing with you down the American east coast, which included passing the glow of the Statue of Liberty under a moonlit sky. I "remember" 15 foot waves rolling, folding over our bow. In contrast, one of the most peaceful and pleasant times was spending an afternoon with you and Julie at the Penn Relays, eating turkey sandwiches and talking about whatever we felt like. We recalled the excitement of watching
together a pole vault world record shattered, at a previous Penn Relays. You are an inspiration for living an enriched life.
Love,
Chelsea, Julie & Hal

Stan,
We remember a wonderful visit in the early days of your Vermont home.
You showed us the way on the ski slopes with hints to improve our skills. We
loved the time spent with you.
We wish you a happy 80th birthday. Stay young and fun!
With love,
Bonnie and Don
Hi Stan,
We send our best greetings to you on this very special day. We hope you are as proud of your accomplishments as we are.
What can you do to top the first 80? You've conquered all the mountains and assisted every cause know to man! We thank your only choice is to keep on doing what you've been doing for the last 80 -- You can't beat success. You did it right - so don't change now!
Our love to you today and all others!
Carol & Joe
PS: Maybe the key to it all is your choice of Edna!
