ZEV & HEIDI
Marisa, Elizabeth & Sarah
Dear Grandpa,
I would like to thank you for everything you have ever given me. I don’t know where to start because they are all so important to me. From coins to watches, necklaces to rings, and the most important my education. Kent Place shows me that I can work hard and achieve my goals in so many ways and you also encourage me to do that. You have taught me so much, even the little things mean a lot to me. You inspire me to be the best person I can be and I thank you for that. Thank You and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Love always,
your granddaughter,
Lizzy
Dear Grandpa,

First, I would like to wish you a very happy birthday. Eighty years is quite a milestone, and I pray that I am as young as you are when I turn eighty! I believe that you have found the secret to everlasting life and happiness : dedication to excellence. You represent the epitome of this quality, for you have displayed it to me in more ways than I can count. Your bike-riding lends a perfect metaphor to this attempt to verbalize my appreciation. You use your persistence and strength of mind to reach the top of a mountain much like the way you overcome obstacles of any sort. Your dedication to excellence shines brightly for your children and their children. You have displayed this to me personally through the gift of education. I cannot thank you enough for the support you have given to my family and myself. Your model of generosity, caring, and sweetness affects the family in more ways than we can presently see. I know that I can use your example of living to make the world a better place. Thank you for being all you are and happy birthday,

Marisa

Dear Grandpa,

You've taught me so much,
skiing to life to cousin caring.
but I've learned so much from the littlest things
You taught to follow my dreams
We've had our laughs and our crys,
but you're the one in the family to look on the bright side.
You're always the one to find something funny,
whether it's mistakes, accidents, or days that aren't sunny.
Whenever something went wrong,
it turned out you got me along.
I love you so much,
and that’s not all...
'cuz whenever I'm with you it's always a ball!!
So basically thanks for it all,
the care and comfort of you, a doll!!
Love forever and always,

Sarah

Dear Stan,

You have been an essential part of my life for 20 years. At every turning point or milestone, you have been there to celebrate with us, encourage us, and offer support as a mentor, guide and model. At our brightest and at our darkest times you’ve been there…and I will love you forever for your compassion, tenderness and generosity of spirit. Among many wonderful memories, I cherish the time(s) that:

• you called and asked for "Betty" when Lizzy wanted to change her name
• you coached me on the slopes at Stratton…I’ve loved skiing ever since.
• you helped us buy our first ‘house’ and look intelligently and dispassionately for the second one.
• you tackled the prowler on the second floor...and then broke your hip roller-blading!
• you danced with the Mummers at your 75th birthday
• you set up a 2000-person toast for my Dad on his 80th at the Big Kahuna...and you gave him that tie!
• we watched your name come on screen for the first time at the Tuttleman Omniverse Theater (we cheered!)
• we all climbed Masada together, followed by mud packs in the Dead Sea
• Lizzy got to celebrate her Bat Mitzvah with figs and honey at the Hurvah in Old Jerusalem
• we looked out at the Croisette from the most fabulous suite in Cannes
• I realized that you and Edna made a business together, succeeded, and knew what we were going through
• we realized that, through your generosity, our girls could attend the schools we hoped they could
• we saw the US hockey team win the gold against Russia at the 1980 Winter Olympics (your 'lucky tickets')!

You are an Original: generous, wise and direct. You and Edna have provided magnificent models of citizenship and true prosperity. You have raised 5 outstanding children and are now bringing love and adventure to the expanding number of grandchildren who adore you...We share you with the city of Philadelphia, yet every one of us feels that you have an eye on us alone. May we all have the good fortune and grace to bring a fraction of the goodness to life that you have…and may we have many more years enjoying life together. Happy Birthday!

With deep respect, appreciation and love, Heidi

Dear Stan,

In working with Heidi and the family to put together this website, I have come to recognize how blessed we are to have you in our lives.

I am thrust back to the very first moment you entered the house at Kent Road. Your goodness and sweetness infused hope into the home. It never abated. You added that element that Carol, Mother, and I yearned for. You gave us yourself and stability. You took on the challenge of raising two children as though they we yours. You made us yours.

You were and continue to be scrupulously honest. You demanded that of me. I am the better for it. You refused to compromise on your values. You stood up for what was right, even if it was difficult. You made principle a living reality. You put your heart and soul it to it day after day, meal after meal and night after night.

When there was a project, a homework assignment, a Cub Scout group, or Girl Scout cookies to sell; you were there. You were always there. You have taught me what ‘there’ was. Your strength of character has been that steady touchstone throughout my life. It has guided me in just about each and every choice. It has given me courage. I have often doubted myself. I have often questioned my own decisions, yet there was always Stanley, that tired old Englishman, whose deep consistency has been my rudder. Your simple statement that ‘you’re lucky if you just do it right 50% of the time’ gave me courage to take go forward at times when I could see no light. In addition, when I do not know what to do, I simply ask myself what would Stan do? More often than not an answer comes. It is usually the right one.

The images flood my mind I remember our midnight departures to Kentucky with Carol and I in the back of the station wagon, the barbecues at the fireplace, the trips to Quakertown, Julius Jacobson, Red and Mary, the 1st toy you brought me – a gray plastic, battery operated Morse code system, great army toys we used to get at that exotic store, the forts we (you) built, the rides to and from ice skating and a thousand other places, the nightly 6:30 dinners, the way to build fires and sharpen knives, the Reading terminal tuna sandwiches, Levis’s hot dogs, the trip to college where you saved our lives as I panicked at an oncoming car. And if not for you and there would be no Lost Ships. That you respected the work, was deeply important to me.

The love, the love the enduring and unquenchable love that has kept us on track. It was never easy and you never waived. Even now your commitment to your entire family and all your friends is heartfelt and inspirational.

Thank you for sharing life with us,

In appreciation, respect and love,

Zev
